IT'S TRUE! JEA CAN HELP YOU 'SEE BETTER. FEEL YOUNGER'

Our quarterly theme is ‘See Better. Feel Younger.’ Take a look. The big idea is that vision correction procedures, such as cataract surgery with a premium lens implant, can help our patients – particularly those age 65 and older - see better…and in turn feel younger physically and emotionally. This is not just marketing-speak. It’s a real thing.

Let’s take a deeper dive, beginning with ‘See Better’. In most cases, cataract surgery with a premium lens implant:

o restores clear vision by removing the patient’s cloudy natural lens and replacing it with a clear artificial intraocular lens; o enhances visual acuity (sharper, clearer vision) to 20/40 or better in most cases, which is the level required for tasks like driving; o gives a patient the ability to see colors more vibrantly; and o improves vision in various lighting conditions.

Obviously cataract surgery does not literally reverse the aging process, but these improvements to a patient’s vision do allow them to feel more confident, independent, engaged in activities, energetic, and…younger. In addition to alleviating the physical strain on your eyes to function in daily life, better eyesight enables:

o enjoyment of favorite activities and hobbies with greater confidence, ease, and safety; o feelings of empowerment and increased independence to perform daily tasks; o reading without glasses and driving at night with greater ease; o enhanced social interaction, which can reduce feelings of isolation and loneliness; o better depth perception and reduced glare sensitivity to lower the risk of falls and related injuries; and o improved psychological well-being to help overcome symptoms of depression and anxiety.

According to the American Academy of Ophthalmology, nearly 3 million Americans choose to have cataract surgery each year, and the overall success rate is 97% or higher. To be sure, while most cataract surgery patients do experience improved vision and enhanced quality of life, it’s important to note that some patients may not achieve perfect 20/20 vision after surgery due to other eye conditions or factors. Recovery times can also vary from patient to patient as well. That’s why it’s important to have open communication with your ophthalmologist to discuss your expectations and concerns to ensure a positive outcome and proper post operative care.
